IMPORTANT UPDATE: CLOSED 07/15/2026
In response to the incident reported in our email on July 6th, 2026, our leadership team has spent countless hours listening to your feedback and having difficult conversations about the future of The Play. An official decision was made to cancel The Play Organization.
This was not an easy decision. We cannot, in good conscience, continue hosting events while members of our community have expressed that they do not feel fully supported or heard. In accordance with our Code of Conduct and our commitment to transparency, we acknowledge an incident report involving a member of The Play’s leadership was submitted this year. This reports prompted significant reaction in the community and in reflecting about our internal systems, leadership, communication, and accountability, ceasing operations is the appropriate response.
For the past eight years, The Play has been dedicated to building something unique. We set out to create a space centered around Care, Consent, Connection, Creativity, and Community. Along the way, we’ve built friendships, celebrated incredible artists, watched thousands of people find connection, and witnessed countless relationships, collaborations, and moments of personal growth.
We invested significant time and resources into building safety systems. Our leadership and the Dream Team completed power dynamics training. We had a Consent Director, a one-on-one interview process, Harm Reduction Specialists, Registered Nurses, play space monitors, an on-site help desk, and a rigorous incident reporting process after every event. Those measures mattered. At the same time, it become clear that safety procedures and infrastructure alone are not enough.
Thank you to every member, volunteer, performer, educator, host, facilitator, guest and the members of The PlayDream Team who helped shape this community over the past eight years. Whatever comes next, we hope the friendships, creativity, and care that grew here continue long after The Play has ceased operations.
